Our Program

Free Bread for Ukrainians

Inna Politova in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

Inna Politova is a long-standing volunteer from Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. She has been helping underprivileged Ukrainians in Zaporizhzhia City since 2018. Inna strives to provide food for people. She delivers prepared food to disabled, elderly and people with no families or support system every Wednesday. On Thursdays Inna volunteers at the main train station in the city and gives away warm meals to homeless, elderly, and other people who are below poverty level. On Saturdays Inna feeds people at a local market.

With the support of Ukrainian Care, Inna has gained access to 200+ loafs of bread weekly. Zaporizhzhia is a local Ukrainian hub for people displaced by the war. She feeds arriving people who are wounded, children, elderly, and refugees from Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol’, Vasylivka, Hulyaipole. Ukrainian Care helps Inna to give out 200+ loaves of bread three times a week at her regular locations and refugee camps. Ukrainian Care provided funds to acquire 2400 loaves of bread to be given out to people in need. This contribution has been lasting for over a month. Thank to that, Inna is able to support her regular clients and refugees without having to chose who to support.

Pastor Aleksandr in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine

As a pastor, Aleksandr has been doing charity work since 2008. In 2014 he was forced out of DNR for his pro Ukrainian views and after losing everything he and his wife and three young children moved to Kryvyi Rih and quickly found a way to help people in need. Currently his church serves more than 500 people weekly, and with the help of Ukrainian Care he is able to provide free bread for those who need it the most. Aleksandr gives out 100 loaves of bread three times a week. In addition to hot meals, they provide themselves.

Aleksandr shared his regrets about not being able to provide food for more people: “We do everything we can, but there are still people who need more help”. He understands that support for the army is necessary, and at the same time he sees the huge need in refugee and civilian communities who were trapped or displaced by the war.

“We work with elderly and disabled people.

The Ukrainian Care team provides a huge help in maintaining the lifeline many people rely on. Our budget would not be able to cover the costs of bread. Thank you to Ukrainian Care and everyone who donates and supports the organization. I hope this partnership will continue because many people rely on getting the help weekly because of shortages in food supplies caused by the ongoing war.

Kryvyi Rih is under constant attack from the Russian forces and bread helps us feed the people and stay connected to the community”
